Natural Gas Causing an Energy Revolution on earth
" we think of alternative energy and how it is now coming online
at a pretty steep growth rate. There is no doubt that fracking has
helped us get at natural gas that we couldn't get at before, and we are able to
collect it much quicker and in more abundance that we have in the past. Since
we have more than the demand, the price of natural gas is come down
significantly. No longer can coal-fired plants compete against natural gas
fired energy generation systems. When we think of and "Energy
Revolution
Whereas that is all true, in total
percentage of output, it's still not as significant as you'd be led to believe.
Renewables including wind and solar and other such things are not impacting the
electricity generating sector is much as you might think. Recently, I was told
that the "Energy Revolution" could also be natural gas. The often
bantered "Energy Revolution" is a term mostly used by global
warming-alternative energy folks.
If we use "Revolution"
which brings definitions of rebels VS. status quo, then it is the new energy
green-energy VS. the incumbents (fossil fuel). If we reshape the argument to
show that innovation in the oil and gas sector, through fracking, is the rebel
force against the status quo, even if it is the status quo that's producing
those efficiencies, then okay, but calling that a "revolution" doesn't
make sense even if "natural gas" is way cleaner that coal.
Now then, when it comes to the real
energy industry folks, I would say that our think tank and I personally are on
the same page as to the benefits of these new extraction technologies of course,
it's all good, but "revolution" seems more like reframing the
argument, are we doing that for PR sake? Natural Gas has the science behind it
and a packed molecule filled with energy - lots of it. It wins, and if we can
collect more of it more efficiently it wins.
The technology isn't new, the newest
methods are incremental gains in process efficiency yes, and the scale it huge,
all good but is that revolutionary? Or is that just "the best method and
energy wins" - which to me is a good thing. Low energy costs give us an
advantage, we need it. Let's get all we can. I reject the nomenclature and
wording, and of course don't argue with the real market results those are
obvious for all to see.
Now then, when it comes to
alternative energy I must tell you that I disagree with the ROI for wind, and
question the costs of transmission lines. I question the ROI for solar for
homes today, as we should wait until the next point of efficiency is reached,
then it makes sense, the free-market will know when, government subsidies for
solar and wind, mandates based on a so-called villainous trace gas (CO2) is
silly and costly. It's not interesting that I mention "energy costs"
at all. By the way, for my readers please understand that I am not against
fossil fuels in the least, nor am I a religious fanatic about so-called
reliable renewables.
And let me leave you with this
thought, when you hear the phrase "energy revolution" being
propagandized by either the alternative energy sector, or big oil, you might
want to perk up your ears and consider exactly who is behind the propaganda and
what are they trying to lead us to believe? Please consider all this and think
on it
